UMass-Northeastern game time could be moved up

Citing concerns for Northeastern's travel in an expected snowstorm, UMass associate athletic director Tim Kenney said UMass and Northeastern are exploring the possibility of moving up the start time of Wednesday's game, which is currently set to tip at 7 p.m. The schools were monitoring weather forecasts and other logistical necessities. If the start time is changed, there will be an announcment Tuesday morning. According to Weather.com, heavy snow is expected Wednesday in Amherst. 0

Path to Postseason: Computers evaluate UMass' NCAA, NIT Potential

Well it's obviously really really early to do this. The computers have very little actual data to work with. Expect all of this data to vary wildly especially early on. But this gives us a baseline to start with. Check it out with appropriate grains of salt. To see what NCAA Selection committee members will have in front of them when considering UMass, click here. Using projected results (W,L, or ?) based on Jeff Sagarin's predictor from RPIforecast.com, I'll look at what UMass needs to 0

Week Guide III - Nov. 24-Dec. 1

Tipping off  I didn't rank Florida. I had them at No. 6 last week and not at all now. Usually I take the approach that a win is a win regardless of final score or overtime, but after losing to Miami and nearly losing to Louisiana-Monroe, Florida doesn't look like a top 25 team. So I bounced them as well as a handful for other.  I think when Florida gets healthy they'll probably be back in top 10 and certainly the top 25, but until then...  I ranked 0

LuWane Pipkins is officially a future UMass Minuteman

LuWane Pipkins is finally officially a future UMass men’s basketball player.  The 5-foot-10 point guard from Chicago signed his National Letter of Intent Monday and UMass officially verified it, Wednesday.  “He’s a great addition to our team and family. He’s a guard who can push tempo and really guards the ball defensively. He can score from the point guard spot and can really shoot,” Kellogg said. “More importantly he’s a tough kid who wants to do well and wants to win. He brings good character. I’m excited. 0

College basketball Week Guide: Nov. 17

Tipping off  If the ACC had it to do over again, would it still want BC? The football team has been O.K. Good in some years less so in others. Basketball has plummetted to a point where it's not even really competitive. The fact that Jim Christian was the best coach they could hire speaks volumes.  My Associated Press Top 25 Ballot   1. LuWane Pipkins, the point guard from Chicago who committed to UMass over the summer, was in attendance with his father for the UMass-Siena game Friday night. He was impressed with what he saw. “I’m enjoying. It was everything I imagined the school would be. The fan base is good. The team is good. I’m enjoying it,” he said. “It’s beautiful. I can’t wait til I get here.” Pipkins said he’s signing his letter of intent at his school at a ceremony Monday at 1 p.m. 0

UMass holding out hope on Frohnapfel

Austin Whipple took all the first string snaps at practice Friday, but UMass is holding out hope that junior Blake Frohnapfel will be healthy enough to play in Tuesday's game at Akron. Frohnapfel suffered a bone bruise in Wednesday's win over Ball State. Frohnapfel, who is a graduate student at UMass after transferring from Marshall, has completed 137 of 241 passes for 3,345 yards and led the Mid-American Conference with 334.5 yards per game. He threw 23 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.  Whipple, who began his career 0

UMass got a verbal commitment Monday from James Sosinski a quarterback from Hamilton, Ariz. according to AZCentral.com. Sosinski, a 6-foot-7, 240-pound QB, didn't become a starter until this season.
