Week Guide: Dec. 3

Leading off

Sad news about Rick Majerus.

I'd heard a few weeks back that he needed a heart transplant and was unlikely to get one.

I've met and talked to him a few times, media days, press conferences etc. He was a complicated and controversial guys.

But one thing was indisputable. He loved his players. He'll be missed.

Top 25

Hard week to vote as several previously unnoteworthy undefeated teams beat legitimate ranked teams. I could have ranked about 40 teams this week. But here's what I came up with:

1. Duke
2. Indiana
3. Syracuse
4. Michigan
5. Louisville
6. Ohio State
7. Florida
8. Missouri
9. Kansas
10. Arizona
11. Gonzaga
12. Cincinnati
13. Georgetown
14. Illinois
15. San Diego State
16. New Mexico
17. UNLV
18. Virginia Tech
19. Notre Dame
20. Oklahoma State
21. North Carolina
22. Boise State
23. Minnesota
24. Creighton
25. Wyoming

DROPPED OUT: NC State, Kentucky, Colorado, Michigan State
TEAMS THAT I HAVE RANKED THAT AREN'T RANKED NOW: UCLA, UConn, Wisconsin, Baylor, Memphis, NC State, Kentucky, Colorado, Michigan State
TEAMS I'VE RANKED No. 1: Indiana, Duke

Games of the Day

Monday- Either choosing Eastern Michigan at Syracuse or USC at Nebraska. I don’t really love either game, but it's a week field.
Tuesday – NC State at UConn, 9 p..m. Georgetown vs. Texas, 7 p.m. - Jimmy V Classic
Wednesday – Florida at Florida State, 7, Gonzaga at Washington State -
Thursday – Creighton at Nebraska, 8 – The Blue Jays are very good and Nebraska might be decent. A good in-state rivalry is always a plus
Friday – Speaking of instate rivalries Iowa State at Iowa
Saturday – Duke vs. Temple, 3:15, Colorado at Kansas, 2 p.m. - Would any winner in either game stun you? Sure Temple's a bit of a long shot, but it does win games like this from time to time.
Sunday – Eastern Kentucky at Illinois, 6 – Battle of undefeateds with wildly different respect levels

NEW NICKNAME PLEASE: Kentucky - Wildcats are a weak nickname in all instances and there's far too many of them. Kentucky has one of if not the best traditions and fan bases in all of college athletics, shouldn't they have a distinctive nickname. It should be something horseracing related I think. I'll ponder this and include my answer in my college hoop notes.
Question I don't know the answer to: What's wrong with Florida State?

Fearless Predictions
: Georgetown over Texas

Buzzer Beaters:
BC plays UNH this weekend, which likely would have been UMass-BC weekend. Will UNH be as "challenging" as Bryant?

...1 day til UMass-Northeastern...
