Gazette letters get second airing in weekly WHMP feature
Every Wednesday morning at home, my phone rings early -- often before even the faithful family dog is up.
It's my former Gazette colleague Bob Flaherty calling, now morning host for WHMP. We chat on-air about recent letters to the editor in the Gazette.
As the paper's editor, I have the privilege of curating a robust mailbag. The strength of our daily Opinion section, here on GazetteNET and in print, relies heavily on the arguments in these letters. Our readership is smart, engaged and, letter by letter, pretty darn persuasive.
In my visits with Flaherty, I seek to share the wealth with WHMP listeners, as it were.
This week, we talked about a local agency that helps the handicapped, about the U.S. military's work in Africa, about a zoning proposal for downtown Northampton and about the casino gambling industry, based on content provided in letters from Peter Ramos, Elliott Fratkin, Sarah Metcalf and Jesse Schwalbaum.
Our 10-minute conversation Sept. 26 can be heard in this podcast available at WHMP's website.
I will post future podcasts here. Or consider listening Wednesdays at 7:35 a.m. at 1400 AM or 96.9 FM.
