Harrison Tremaine, A.J. Chatterton of Northampton place 3rd at D1 wrestling individuals
After losing in the second round at the Western Massachusetts Division 1 Individual Wrestling Championships Saturday, sophomore Harrison Tremaine and senior A.J. Chatterton of Northampton each had work to do if they were going to place third.
The teammates got it done.
Tremaine pinned Ryan House of Chicopee in 1 minute, 21 seconds in his opening round match at 215 pounds, but fell to Dan Tarnovsky of West Springfield by major decision, 13-0, with a trip to the finals on the line.
In the losers bracket, Tremaine won two matches to placed third at Central High School and advance to the state championships. The top six wrestlers in each class advance to states.
Tremaine pinned Chris Frappier of East Longmeadow in 32 seconds and pinned Watson James of Putnam in 1:51 to finished third.
Chatterton pinned Joe Romito-Carey of Minnechaug in 2:13 in his first match at 160 but was pinned by Slav Pisarenko of West Springfield in 5:14 in the next round.
Chatterton pinned Ben Greschwind of Westfield in 46 seconds and defeated Orlando Torres of Chicopee, 6-5, in his final match.
Senior Jake Intrator of Northampton, who earlier this season earned the 100th victory of his career, placed fourth at 112 pounds.
Intrator pinned Chris Murray of Amherst in 2:58 but then fell to Brandon Seibold of Chicopee, 10-5, with a trip to the finals on the line.
In the losers bracket, Intrator earned a major decision, 15-2, over Trinh Nguyen of Putnam but then lost 9-3 to Connor Leibel of Agawam, who took third.
