Girls Hoop Walkertology 2.0

Before we get too deep into this, I want to admit that this is a little by the seat of my pants and I'm not as confident in these rankings as I have been the past few years. It was easy to make a mistake in the old version and this one is exponentially harder, so I'm making no guarantees here. Please don't schedule your bus trips yet, folks.

You can read more about the new Walker (if you missed my story the first time around) here.

Here is what I have for each division through Monday's results. These could and likely will change based on the results for the rest of the week. I am planning to have a final update posted after Thursday night's games.

Division 1
1. Holyoke
2. West Springfield
3. East Longmeadow
4. Amherst
5. Northampton
6. Longmeadow
7. Central
8. Pittsfield
NOTE: Best I can tell, it will be virtually impossible each year for Pittsfield to get over its strength of schedule deficit in the new system. Because of the standard deviation, which gives weight to how much better or worse a team is in a category, the Generals take it on the chin in SOS in D-1 and it hurts even more now than it did in the old system. ... Holyoke remains No. 1 despite two straight losses, but I'd imagine West Side would take over No. 1 if it can knock off both EL and Holyoke this week.

Division 2
1. Mahar
2. Drury
3. Palmer
4. Easthampton
5. Hampshire
6. Athol
7. Hoosac Valley
8. Belchertown
9. South Hadley
10. Frontier
11. Southwick
NOTE: Things are extremely close in the middle here, with four through nine feeling pretty fluid going into a bunch of big games on Tuesday. Drury-Palmer is also very close for the No. 2 spot with the Blue Devils facing Pittsfield on Tuesday and Palmer meeting Commerce. Hampshire was helped significantly by playing the hardest D2 schedule (included three D1 teams) and by beating D1 tourney team Pittsfield last week.

Division 3
1. Lee
2. Ware
3. Lenox
4. Sabis
5. Hopkins Academy
6. Granby
7. Holyoke Catholic
8. Smith Academy
9. Gateway
10. New Leadership
11. Franklin Tech
NOTE: The committee has been placing the Tri-County winner in the No. 8 spot and Gateway could certainly get that again. Lenox-Sabis is the closest pairing in all three brackets and both teams could win or lose and things could still change based on all the other variables involved. Hopkins-Granby is also very close, with both teams playing D2 tourney teams on Tuesday. I was wondering how close Lee and Ware would be after a couple of Lee losses, but they still really aren't.
