Police arrest Northampton man after Main Street robbery

NORTHAMPTON - A woman who was allegedly robbed by a man claiming to have a gun on Main Street was clear-headed enough to supply police with information that led to the arrest of a suspect hours later.

Police said a man claiming to have a gun tucked in his waistband forced a woman to withdraw money from an ATM and give it to him Monday evening.

Mieczkowski claims slander by Board of Selectmen

HADLEY - Selectmen have backed off from a threatened suspension of John Mieczkowski's license to run an auto-sales business on Lawrence Plain Road.

But Mieczkowski is still upset, saying selectmen slandered him just before the April 8 town election, in which he lost his bid to join the board, and didn't adequately research its case against him.

Housing hard to find for 16 displaced by fire

northampton - As of Monday, 16 fire victims were still in search of permanent housing after the May 4 blaze at 11 Bridge St. that left 21 people homeless, according Mayor Clare Higgins.
