Weekend planner: Music
Ryan Miller, Adam Gardner and Brian Rosenworcel — two guitarists and a bongo player — began jamming together in a cramped dorm room at Tufts University in 1992. Today, as Guster, they’re a pop-music phenomenon: purveyors of “wuss rock,” a brand of music built around soaring harmonies, inventive guitar riffs and infectous hand-percussion beats, who have, with little or no radio or other industry support, developed an extensive cult following through their live shows and tapes recorded by fans (“Gusterrhoids”) and traded over the Internet.
Currently on tour following the Jan. 8 release of its seventh album (descriptively titled “Live Acoustic”), the trio will be at the Calvin Theatre in Northampton tonight to perform an acoustic show with the aid of the Guster String Players (violin and cello). Yellowbirds opens.
