FRANCES HA: A woman who says she lives in New York City, although she doesn’t really have an apartment (Greta Gerwig), apprentices for a dance company, although she’s not really a dancer. As she throws herself headlong into her dreams, the possibility of realizing them seems to dwindle. Also stars Mickey Sumner, Adam Driver. Rated R.

GIRL MOST LIKELY: A failed New York playwright awkwardly navigates the transition from Next Big Thing to Last Year’s News. Stars Kristen Wiig, Annette Bening, Matt Dillon. Rated PG-13.

GROWN UPS 2: After moving his family back to his hometown to be with his friends and their kids, Lenny (Adam Sandler) finds out that between old bullies, new bullies, schizo bus drivers, drunk cops on skis, and 400 costumed party crashers sometimes crazy follows you. Also stars Kevin James, Chris Rock. Rated PG-13.

HANNAH ARENDT: A look at the life of philosopher and political theorist Hannah Arendt (Barbara Sukowa), who reported for The New Yorker on the war crimes trial of the Nazi Adolf Eichmann. Also stars Axel Milberg, Janet McTeer. Not rated.

THE KINGS OF SUMMER: Three teenage friends, in the ultimate act of independence, decide to spend their summer building a house in the woods and living off the land. Stars Nick Robinson, Gabriel Basso, Moises Arias. Rated R.

ONLY GOD FORGIVES: Julian (Ryan Gosling), a drug-smuggler thriving in Bangkok’s criminal underworld, sees his life get even more complicated when his mother compels him to find and kill whoever is responsible for his brother’s recent death.
