ARGO: As the Iranian revolution reaches a boiling point, a CIA ‘exfiltration’ specialist concocts a risky plan to free six Americans who have found shelter at the home of the Canadian ambassador. Stars Ben Affleck, Bryan Cranston, John Goodman. Rated R.

DON’T STOP BELIEVIN’: EVERYMAN’S JOURNEY: A documentary about Arnel Pineda, who was plucked from YouTube to become the new singer for the rock ‘n’ roll band, Journey. Stars Arnel Pineda, Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain. Not rated.

ESCAPE FROM PLANT EARTH: Astronaut Scorch Supernova (the voice of Brendan Fraser) finds himself caught in a trap when he responds to an SOS from a notoriously dangerous alien planet. Also stars the voices of Sarah Jessica Parker, Jessica Alba. Rated PG.

A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD: John McClane (Bruce Willis) travels to Russia to help out his seemingly wayward son, Jack (Jai Courtney), only to discover that Jack is a CIA operative working to prevent a nuclear-weapons heist. Also stars Sebastian Koch. Rated R.

HAPPY PEOPLE: A YEAR IN THE TAIGA: A documentary, directed by Werner Herzog, about the indigenous people living in Bakhtia, the heart of the Siberian Taiga; some 300 villagers whose daily routines have barely changed over the last century. Not rated.

IDENTITY THIEF: Mild-mannered businessman Sandy Patterson (Jason Bateman) travels from Denver to Miami to confront Diana (Melissa McCarthy ), the deceptively harmless-looking woman who has been living it up after stealing Sandy’s identity. Also stars, John Cho, Amanda Peet. Rated R.

THE INCREDIBLE BURT WONDERSTONE: Magician Burt Wonderstone (Steve Carell) splits from his longtime stage partner after a guerrilla street magician steals their thunder. Spending time with his boyhood idol helps Burt remember what made him love magic in the first place. Also stars Luke Vanek, Jim Carrey, Steve Buscemi. Rated PG-13.

JACK THE GIANT SLAYER: The ancient war between humans and a race of giants is reignited when Jack (Nicholas Hoult), a young farmhand fighting for a kingdom and the love of a princess, opens a gateway between the two worlds. Also stars Stanley Tucci, Ewan McGregor. Rated PG-13.

LA PIROGUE: A group of African men leave Senegal in a pirogue captained by a local fisherman to undertake the treacherous crossing of the Atlantic to Spain where they believe better lives and prospects await. Stars Souleymane Seye Ndiaye, Laïty Fall, Malaminé ‘Yalenguen’ Dramé. Not rated.

THE LAST EXORCISM PART II: As Nell Sweetzer (Ashley Bell) tries to build a new life after the events of the first movie, the evil force that once possessed her returns with an even more horrific plan. Also stars Julia Garner, Spencer Treat Clark. Rated PG-13.

OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL: A small-time magician with dubious ethics arrives in a magical land and must decide if he will be a good man or a great one. Stars James Franco, Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams, Rachel Weisz. Rated PG.

A PLACE AT THE TABLE: A documentary that investigates hunger as experienced by millions of Americans and explores proposed solutions to the problem. With Jeff Bridges, Tom Colicchio, Ken Cook. Rated PG.

QUARTET: At a home for retired opera singers, the annual concert to celebrate Verdi’s birthday is disrupted by the arrival of Jean Horton (Maggie Smith), an eternal diva and former wife of Reginald Paget (Tom Courtenay), one of the residents. The film is Dustin Hoffman’s directorial debut. Also stars Michael Gambon, Billy Connolly. Rated PG-13.

SAFE HAVEN: Katie (Julianne Hough), a young woman with a mysterious past, lands in Southport, N.C., where she forms a bond with Alex (Josh Duhamel), a local widower. Also stars Cobie Smulders. Rated PG-13.

SIDE EFFECTS: A young woman’s world unravels when a drug prescribed by her psychiatrist has unexpected side effects. Stars Rooney Mara, Channing Tatum, Jude Law. Rated R.

SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK: After a stint in a mental institution, former teacher Pat Solitano (Bradley Cooper) moves back in with his parents and tries to reconcile with his ex-wife. Things get more challenging when Pat meets Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence), a mysterious girl with problems of her own. Also stars Robert De Niro. Rated R.

WARM BODIES: After a zombie named R (Nicholas Hoult) saves Julie (Teresa Palmer) from an attack, the two form a relationship that sets in motion a sequence of events that might transform the entire lifeless world. Also stars John Malkovich. Rated PG-13.
