Suzanne Wilson’s Best Bets
This always seems like the best time of year to stroll around Historic Deerfield, when the colors of nature add to the scenery of the old village. This will be the last weekend for open hearth cooking, when apples, pumpkins, corn and other foods of the harvest season are prepared in the Hall Tavern Kitchen, much as they would have been centuries ago. Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
ANOTHER GOOD BET
While you’re there, check out “Furniture Masterworks: Tradition and Innovation in Western Massachusetts,” an exhibit at Wright House that explores 150 years of furniture making in this area. Western Massachusetts is home to very talented furniture makers these days — and it turns out they’re part of a rich history. Open daily, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. historic-deerfield.org.
