Laurie Loisel’s Best Bets

High-flying circus acts are endlessly entertaining. On Friday, the founders of the Brattleboro-based New England Center for Circus Arts, twin sisters Elsie Smith and Serenity Smith Forchion, will present “Ruckus” at the Academy of Music, where they and six other circus professionals will use a 19-foot-tall aerial apparatus: Expect dancing, juggling, contortionism, aerial feats — all the features a well-rounded circus should have.

Another good bet

Around here, it’s possible to see nationally known music legends mix it up with local musical dynamos in an intimate setting. Take the concert planned for Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at the VFW Hall at 18 Meadow St. in Florence, where Charles Neville will play with Peter J. Newland and RadioXile. The opening act is the Lonesome Brothers. $12 at the door; proceeds benefit Stand Up To Cancer.
