Photo Gallery: Steeple to steeple
A view northeast from the steeple of the 1852 Easthampton Congregational Church on Main Street in Easthampton. Purchase photo reprints »
Coming back down the stairwell of the Easthampton Congregational Church steeple, after photographing for a story on the current renovations there, I found this view to the northeast that includes the steeple of the former Notre Dame du Bon Conseil Catholic Church and, at right, a bit of Mount Holyoke, often mistakenly called Mount Skinner. The round frame reminds me of old photographic prints that would use the entirety of the circular image that a lens naturally projects. The laws of physics haven’t changed so it’s only by convention that cameras now capture just a sliver of that full circle.
