Pulitzer Prize-winning author Edward Humes talks about his 2012 book, “Garbology: Our Dirty Love Affair With Trash,” Aug. 30 at 7:30 p.m., at the Robert Crown Center, Hampshire College, Amherst. Humes’ book is the story of what happens to the approximately 102 tons of trash each American produces in a lifetime — a towering mound that’s been called our biggest legacy.

Maddow, who got her start as a Valley radio personality, is featured in “Twenty-Four-Hour Party People: MSNBC tries to figure out what liberals really want.” In it, Maddow is described by the cable channel’s president, Phil Griffin, as “ ‘our quarterback,’ the person who sets the tone for the network.”
