Steve Pfarrer’s Best Bets
The Amherst Cinema pays tribute to Martin Scorsese this month and next, screening one of the acclaimed director’s films each Sunday at 2 p.m. and Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. This week you can catch “Raging Bull,” the 1980 portrait of sadomasochistic boxer Jake LaMotta that many critics consider one of the greatest modern films (and for which Robert DeNiro gained 60 pounds to play LaMotta in his bloated, post-boxing days). Tickets at www.amherstcinema.org.
ANOTHER GOOD BET
Gotta love the name of this weekend’s festival of Jewish music: Yidstock 2013. Held Saturday and Sunday at the Yiddish Book Center in Amherst, the festival features some of the top names in klezmer music, like Klezperanto and Steve Bernstein. Tickets and information at 256-4900.
