Kathleen Mellen’s best bets
I’d like to say I discovered artist Chris Demarest, but, of course, that wouldn’t be true. I can say, however, that I recognized his talent for portraiture when we were students at Amherst High School, in the late e_SSRq60s. Back then, I asked him to do a portrait (not of me), which still hangs on the wall of my home. So I was delighted to see a selection of his portraits of World War II vets at the Jones Library. He’ll talk about the exhibit Saturday at 10 a.m., 43 Amity St.
ANOTHER GOOD BET
I’d also like to say I discovered actor Elaine Bromka — but that would be equally untrue. I did, however, watch her develop her craft in the early 1970s, when she was at Smith College. Wednesday at 8 p.m., for one performance only, Bromka will perform “Tea for Three: Lady Bird, Pat and Betty” at Chester Theater. chestertheatre.org
