He has digitized nearly 50,000 art objects for area college museums and private collections. Full name: Jim Gipe

People know you as: DJ Jimmy G, Gippy, James Gripe and Little Jimmy

Date and place of birth: 1963, Great Falls, Mont.

Address: Florence

Job: Owner, photographer, digital imaging consultant, bookkeeper and janitor at Pivot Media

Who lives under the same roof as you? My wife, Kim, my daughter, Magden, and three cats, Jennyanydots (the three- legged wonder), Little Jitter, and Mrs. Nellie Lovett (the black monster)

Education: Bachelor’s degree in photojournalism with a music minor from the University of Northern Colorado; currently working on a doctorate at the School of Hard Knocks

Hobbies: Shaping bonsai trees, gardening and riding my bike

Book you’d recommend to a friend: “Parable of the Sower” by Octavia Butler

Favorite movie/TV show/musician: Yesterday’s favorites: movie — “Blade Runner”; TV show — “The Wire”; musician — Miles Davis; Today’s favorites: movie — “Paprika”; TV show — “Breaking Bad”; singer — Frank Ocean

Five items you can’t live without: iPhone, wife, smell of dirt, a black cat, aluminum wire

Last thing you purchased just for fun: Concave bonsai clippers

What’s at the top of your bucket list? Jet skiing with my brother-in-law on Seeley Lake in Montana

Life-changing experience: Shooting my last roll of film at the Statue of Liberty in 2002

Strangest job you ever held: Underwear model. I was 6 years old. Much therapy was needed to get past that one

Current Facebook status: The trees are awake

A little-known fact about you: I have 52 first cousins

Dumbest thing you ever did: I decided to perform midwinter boiler maintenance on my furnace one cold Saturday night after drinking most of a bottle of white Zinfandel. Had to call in the pros to stop the flood. Needless to say, I paid full price for that mistake. I have since renamed that particular wine “White Imbecile”

One product you’d like to see return: Self-serve car wash — sometimes you just need a high-pressure sprayer to make things right

What really sets you off? Drivers who tailgate

If you could spend the day with a celebrity from any time in history, who would it be? Photographer André Kertész. His work inspired me to become a photographer. I’d like to say thanks

Best advice you ever got: From my mom: “Be sure to take some business classes before you finish your journalism degree”

Favorite place to get a bite: Osaka — those guys really know how to run a restaurant

Favorite athlete: My wife, Kim, because she runs marathons for fun. What’s up with that?

What does your ideal weekend look like? Headphones and bonsai trees interspersed with hugs from my girls

One thing you would change about yourself: I wish I could learn to relax. When you are self-employed, you tend to work all the time and when you aren’t working you are likely worrying about work. Its a self-consuming process

What gives you the creeps? Snakes, nests of snakes and
bags of snakes

People who knew you in high school thought you were:
A space cadet from the planet jazz

Whom do you most admire? My daughter, Magden. She is the most organized optimist I’ve ever met

Parting shot: If you are still in school, see “Mom’s advice” above. Beyond that: Buy local and don’t hate
