Suzanne Wilson’s Best Bets


“Thank God for tea!” a British clergyman once said. For all who love a good cuppa tea — and the conversation, civilized or not, that comes with it — a trip to “Tea Talk: Ritual and Refinement in Early New England Parlors” is in order. The exhibit at Historic Deerfield showcases ceramics, furniture, glass and pewter pieces that are part of the hallowed daily custom that arrived in this area in the late 17th century and then spread far and wide.


While you’re there, check out “Precious Leaves: China’s Legendary Spring Green Teas,” a collection of photos by Mary Lou Heiss that chronicles the techniques of processing handmade spring green tea. Heiss, co-owner of Tea Trekker, a premium tea shop in Northampton, took the photos during several trips to China during the spring tea harvest.
