Suzanne Wilson’s Best Bets


Emily Bazelon’s book, “Sticks and Stones: Defeating the Culture of Bullying and Rediscovering the Power of Character and Empathy,” has earned widespread praise as an incisive addition to efforts around the country aimed at dealing with this all-too-common problem. Bazelon speaks Monday at 7 p.m. in Gamble Auditorium at Mount Holyoke College, South Hadley.


The prolific Leslea Newman — novelist, nonfiction writer, poet, children’s book author — has never lacked for inspiration or creativity. Newman, who lives in Holyoke, will read from “October Morning,” her new novel in verse about the murder of Matthew Shepard, Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Food for Thought Books, 106 North Pleasant St., Amherst. 253-5432.
