Kathleen Mellen’s Best Bets

BACH BY BLANCHETTE

It’s hard to say goodbye, but what a glorious way to go: Peter Blanchette performs Bach on his archguitar tonght at 7:30 in what will be the last performance at the Northampton Center for the Arts’ 17 New South St. location. No one knows where the center will land after its lease is up later this year, but, when it finds a new home, I vote for an encore performance by Blanchette to inaugurate the new digs. Everything is better to Bach. Tickets are $15. www.nohoarts.org or www.archguitar.com

ANOTHER GOOD BET

Alan Ginsberg’s poem “Howl” has three distinct parts, 208 lines and 2907 words, and is considered one of the great works of American literature. Chris Gonzalez of Northampton has memorized it all, and will recite it Sunday at 8 p.m. at Haymarket Cafe, 185 Main St., Northampton. Bring a non-perishable food item for the Northampton Survival Center.
