‘THE ART OF NONFICTION’
Authors Tracy Kidder and Richard Todd are masters of nonfiction: Kidder, of Williamsburg, has written many books, including “The Soul of a New Machine,” for which he won a Pulitzer Prize. Todd, of Ashfield, has been Kidder’s book editor, as well as editor of other books and magazines, and is the author of “The Thing Itself: On the Search for Authenticity.” The two will read from their new book, “Good Prose: The Art of Nonfiction,” Tuesday, 7 p.m., Edwards Church, 297 Main St., Northampton.

UNITE, a shoe and clothing store in Northampton, regularly displays work by artists who might otherwise be off the gallery grid. Case in point: An exhibit of surreal animals and scenes by 16-year-old Northampton artist Joshua Dietz, who is inspired by Dali and Magritte, will open with a reception today from 6 to 9 p.m. and will remain on view through Feb. 5 at the store, 202 Main St.
