The Amherst Public Arts Commission has opened a three-month exhibit at the Town Hall of the landscape photography of Michael Zide, an Amherst resident who divides his time between his work and teaching, including at the Hallmark Institute of Photography in Turners Falls. His black-and-white photos of western Massachusetts, Martha’s Vineyard and California have been featured in magazines, museums and private collections.

The Mead Art Museum at Amherst College has featured a semester-long exhibit on 150 years of artistic interpretations of Tokyo. Today and Saturday, the museum offers a series of free discussions on Japanese art and history, led by experts including leading Japanese artists and museum officials. The one-hour lectures in Pruyne Auditorium in Fayerweather Hall run Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 to 11:30 a.m.
