Since I still think of actor Gordon Clapp as Detective Greg Medavoy in the TV series “NYPD Blue,” it seemed odd at first to picture him portraying poet Robert Frost in a play. But Clapp will be at Amherst College’s Kirby Theatre tonight at 8 p.m. doing just that. Clapp, who grew up in New Hampshire, says he developed a love of Frost’s poetry early on and has long wanted to play him onstage. My hunch is that this will be a strong performance. Free.

You could follow that play up with another American classic: The Northampton Center for the Arts presents Thornton Wilder’s “Our Town” tonight and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Directed by Toby Bercovici. Tickets at www.nohoarts.org; $15 general admission; $10 for students and seniors.
