LOST CONGREGATION

“Men record history and women sew it together,” says Jane Trigère, whose textile art exhibit, “The Women of the Balcony,” is on view at the Jewish Community of Amherst. The installation honors the women of the former Congregation Ohav Sholaum, founded by German Jewish refugees in New York City. Trigère used cushion fabrics she discovered in the balcony of the shul, where the women once worshiped, as well as ritual fringes used in prayer, remnants from a sewing shelf and upholstery fabric. All revealed stories about the lives of the refugee women, Trigère says. Through January 2013. Reception: Dec. 6, 5-8 p.m., 742 Main St., Amherst, 256-0160
