The Odyssey Bookshop in South Hadley will hold a 49th anniversary celebration — really, why wait e_SSRqtil 50? — on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the bookstore. Besides marking another year as an independent bookseller, the evening will feature the always smart and often funny author Martha Ackmann, who will read her essay about the Odyssey from “My Bookstore: Writers Celebrate Their Favorite Places to Browse, Read and Shop.” Free.

What’s left to learn about the past? Well, there’s always something. Bet Power, of the Sexual Minorities Archive, will give a talk about turn-of-the-century Florence resident Marion Turner Sunday at 7 p.m. in the Carroll Room at the Smith College Campus Center. The title of her presentation is “Hidden Florence History: Stories of Our LGBTQ Ancestors.”
