Steve Pfarrer’s Best Bets: Pioneer Valley Symphony; Big Bad Bollocks

THE SOUNDS OF SILENCE

If silent film starlets could sing, what might they sound like? Find out Saturday when Pioneer Valley Symphony debuts William Perry’s “Silent Film Heroines: A Song Suite for Mezzo Soprano and Orchestra.” The show features the PVS debut of Canadian native Wallis Giunta, who’s been piling up glowing reviews in recent years. Works by Dvorák and Sibelius are also on tap. 7:30 p.m. at Frontier Regional School, South Deerfield. www.pvsoc.org.

ANOTHER GOOD BET

John Allen, lead singer of Big Bad Bollocks, is a first-class raconteur, and he’ll multitask on Saturday at 7 p.m. when the Bollocks play Northampton’s Iron Horse Music Hall and he reads from his memoir, “Marmite Cowboy,” about his journey from England to America. www.iheg.com.
