Lou & Lucy’s Leftovers: Lou’s notes
The Notes function on my cellphone is a lifesaver. At the moment I have 25 notes stored.
Among the food-related ones are: Menu Keepers, Leftover Ideas, Cooks Illustrated, Leftover Duck Fat, Wines, Nuts to Eat and Shopping List.
And here’s what each note has in it:
∎ Menu Keepers: Five recipes I’ve cooked for my wife and I that we want to make for company.
There’s salad of romaine: toasted pecans, onion, hearts of palm, Reggiano Parmesan shavings, medjool dates and orange slices;
e_SBlt Kung Pao shrimp from “The Chinese Takeout Cookbook”;
e_SBlt shrimp and andouille gumbo with a brick-red roux;
e_SBlt shrimp étouffée from “James Peterson’s Fish & Shellfish” cookbook;
e_SBlt and fried rustic bread with broccoli rabe and Reggiano Parmesan on top.
∎ Leftover Ideas: Self-explanatory, always in need of additions.
∎ Cooks Illustrated: A list of their top-rated food and appliance products from the magazine’s test kitchen.
∎ Leftover Duck Fat: Some ideas for its use. (Hey, I didn’t say the notes were all healthy.)
∎ Wines: Names of wines I want to get.
∎ Nuts to Eat: A list of the best superfoods in this category. (Hey, I didn’t say the notes were all unhealthy.)
∎ Shopping List: The ever-changing and most-used note, it reminds me not to forget the half-and-half and toilet paper.
I’ll check back in a year and see how my Notes are doing.

Some advice for using all electronic notes: Write them on real paper once in a while.
Lose gadget; notes all gone. Sad day.
