Photo Gallery: West Cummington Congregational Church
Many years ago I went to the West Cummington Congregational Church for a service with my husband and oldest son who was just a toddler at the time. My husband and I were nervous about going to a service with our very energetic son and hoped he would not make a scene. Stephen Philbrick, the minister at the time as well as a good friend, assured us all would be well and not to worry. Well our son crawled all over the church that morning quietly but always moving. We truly enjoyed the service but I have occasional wondered over the last 16 years if our lack of action had offended or been out of place. Then there I was photographing at the first service of the West Cummington Congregational Church in their new space and there it was my assurance all had been well then and still is.

We were concerned that our energetic toddler would make a scene, but Stephen Philbrick, the minister and a good friend, told us not to worry — all would be well. As we enjoyed the service, our son crawled around the church — quiet, but always moving. I have occasionally wondered over the past 16 years if our lack of action that morning had offended anyone. Last week I got my answer: As I took this picture at the church’s first service since a fire destroyed the building nearly three years ago, I felt reassured: All had been well then, and still is.
