Weekend Planner — Music

So-named because he supposedly composed it in between frames while bowling, Mozart’s “Kegelstatt” Trio (kegelstatt = place where skittles are played) is a work for clarinet, piano and viola — a combination of instruments no one had assayed before. Upon publication of the work, the clarinet part was listed as “alternative,” and the piece has since been adapted to various other trio arrangements. On Sunday it will be performed at Deerfield’s Brick Church Meetinghouse by Ensemble Schumann, which, itself an unusual combination of piano (Sally Pinkas), viola (Steve Larson) and oboe (Tom Gallant), has adopted the Mozart work as something of a signature piece. Also on the program: works for piano, viola and oboe in solo, duo and trio combination, by Robert Kahn, Camille Saint-Saens, Max Bruch and Hermann Reutter. The performance will kick off the season for Deerfiekd’s Brick Church Music Series.

3 p.m. Reception follows. $10 suggested donation. 774-2657
