The amazing dot

I’ve always been a fan of dots. I think I owe it to my Aunt Dot, who always seemed to show up at family gatherings when I was a kid wearing polka dots. So when I heard about International Dot Day, I was immediately smitten. It’s the brainchild of Peter H. Reynolds, author of “The Dot,” a book about a girl who refuses to draw until her teacher encourages her to make a single dot on her paper. That dot ignites her imagination, and that’s what Dot Day is all about — celebrating the power of self-expression. Last year, 850,000 people across the globe celebrated; join in this year on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst. www.carlemuseum.org

Art Walk Easthampton goes musical on Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. with “Sights & Sounds,” when 15 buskers serenade pedestrians along Union Street and beyond. www.EasthamptonCityArts.com
