Refashioned by Tom McCabe for Paintbox Theatre, the story of “Little Red Riding Hood” has become an old-time silent-film melodrama, with a villain (Mr. Wolf) up to nefarious doings and a hero (Lil’ Red) who always arrives just in the nick of time. Audience members are to be forewarned: Wolf has vowed to kidnap some of them and tie them to railroad tracks. Once again it will be up to Lil’ Red to the save the day. But first she must journey through the enchanted forest and overcome the many obstacles that block her way.

Paintbox’s production continues Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in Smith College’s Theatre 14. $7 per person or $5 per person with groups of 14 or more. Tickets at the door or 585-3220 or newcenturytheatre.org. (Jon Crispin photo)
