MUSIC AND MELON
Summer means it’s time for Watermelon Wednesdays, the weekly acoustic music series at the West Whately Chapel. Next Wednesday’s show features Red June, a North Carolina trio of guitar, fiddle and mandolin that’s won acclaim for its harmonies and blend of folk, country and bluegrass. They’ve got local roots, too: Fiddler Natalya Weinstein grew up in Leverett. At 7:30 p.m.; online tickets available at www.watermelonwednesdays.com.
ANOTHER GOOD BET
It’s not light summer reading, but Rick Atkinson’s “The Guns at Last Light,” the third part of his trilogy about the liberation of western Europe during World War II, makes for great narrative history. The new book brings fresh insights and anecdotes to the well-plumbed story of the Allied drive through France and Germany in 1944-45.
