Art exhibit to open Friday at site of former Eclipse restaurant on Main Street in Northampton

An exhibit that opens Friday at 5 p.m. in the vacant restaurant space at 184 Main St. will feature the work of Samana, a self-appointed monk who resides in the Northampton Housing Authority’s McDonald House nearby.

Dori Urch Mead, who acquired the Eclipse building in March for $850,000, said the exhibit will feature Samana’s natural sculptures, poetry, music and other art.

“It will probably have about a month’s run,” she said.

A supporter of the arts, Urch Mead is in the midst of renovating the upper floors of the Main Street building and seeking a long-term tenant for the first-floor.

Eclipse closed in January after having difficulty meeting its operating expenses, its general manager told the Gazette at the time.
