Suzanne Wilson’s best bets

There in the fine print in Tuesday’s list of this year’s Pulitzer Prize winners and finalists in The New York Times was this note under Poetry: “Finalist: Jack Gilbert, ‘Collected Poems.’” Gilbert, who died last year, was a former Northampton resident whose wrote starkly personal poems of love, loss and place. He’d never sought fame, a fellow poet once said, and always encouraged others to “write about the big subjects in your life.”

“Direction: Home,” printmaking, collage, and mixed media sculpture at the Oxbow Gallery in Northampton, showcases the work of B.Z. Reily, Julie Lapping Rivera and Diane Travis, longtime teaching colleagues who have supported and enriched each other’s artistic expression. 275 Pleasant St., Thursdays through Sundays, noon to 5 p.m., through April 28.
