Somewhere in the neighborhood of 500 people attended last Saturday’s 11th annual Community Renaissance Festival at the University of Massachusetts Center for Interdisciplinary Renaissance Studies in Amherst. Events ranged from swordplay to concerts to falconry demonstrations. There was even a play, “The Complete Works Of William Shakespeare, Abridged.” A big hit was the mud museum, run by an artist known as Daubers, where one could play mud drums — or just play in the mud. The program’s director, Alison Kiraly, said the free festival aims to introduce the community to the center and its programs. “We try to offer things that are fun and educational but also serve to raise awareness of things we offer throughout the year that are free of charge and open to the public.”
