Steve Pfarrer’s best bets

Northampton singer-songwriter Jamie Kent has made a name for himself in recent years playing a mix of pop, funk and blues. But after a stint at an intensive songwriting workshop, he’s tapped his inner roots/folk musician in a new collection of tunes, to be released this summer. You can get a preview tomorrow when Kent and his band appear at the Parlor Room at Signature Sounds in Northampton. Two shows, 7 and 9 p.m.

Amherst’s Richard Perlmutter is the creator of the acclaimed “Beethoven’s Wig” series of records — famous classical pieces recast as funny tunes for children to sing. On Saturday at 11 a.m., he’ll play selections at the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art alongside young musicians from the Northampton Community Music Center. Ticket sales begin at 10:30 a.m.; seating is limited.
