Kathleen Mellen’s Best Bets
When I was 13, I read Harper Lee’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book “To Kill a Mockingbird.” When I was done, I turned back to Page 1 and started over again. Once I’d seen the movie, starring Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch, I couldn’t get enough of that, either. The film that confronted racism at the height of the civil rights movement won three Academy Awards, for Best Actor (Peck), Best Adapted Screenplay (Lee) and Best Art Direction. It will be shown Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Amherst Cinema. www.amherstcinema.org.
ANOTHER GOOD BET
Sunday is “Hungry Caterpillar Day” at the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst. From noon to 5 p.m. there will be storytimes, films, caterpillar cookies, prizes, art activities and a visit from the hungry fellow himself. 658-1100
