Famously shy

Iris DeMent burst onto the folk/country music scene in the early e_SSRq90s with albums like “Infamous Angel.” Other artists recorded her songs, and she garnered Grammy nominations and sang duos with artists like Emmylou Harris. But the famously shy DeMent stayed largely out of sight in recent years until last fall, when she released “Sing the Delta,” her first collection of original songs since 1996. She’ll perform Saturday night at Northampton’s Iron Horse at 7 p.m.

Northampton painter Elizabeth Solley Caine has made a study in recent years of Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming. Her oil canvases capture the big skies and mountain grandeur with a blend of expressionism and realism. You can see her recent work through Feb. 10 at Northampton’s Oxbow Gallery.
