Weekend Planner: Music
Mount Holyoke College was founded by Massachusetts schoolteacher and women’s rights pioneer Mary Lyon 175 years ago this fall — an anniversary the Mount Holyoke College Symphony Orchestra will celebrate together with the college’s choral ensembles and jazz ensembles in a Founder’s Day Concert this evening at 8 in the school’s Abbey Chapel. The free performance will include Schubert’s Symphony No. 8 (the “Unfinished”), Mendelssohn’s “Song with Chorus” from “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” plus MHC school songs arranged by music faculty member Mark Gionfriddo.
