Must reverse order ending DACA

It is amazing and shocking that our country, which has had so many immigrants and refugees over the centuries, should send our refugees elsewhere.

That is what the young people under DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) will become if we deport them. It undermines what we hope to exemplify to the world: a United States that is compassionate, always fair, always willing to help the distressed.

These young people who recited the Pledge of Allegiance every week and felt part of the country, part of us, are being cast off. What grievous act did they commit? They stayed with their families who moved here: Is that a crime? They speak our language, they went to school here and were taught American history and the American way of doing things. They could become goodwill ambassadors for us.

If we follow their path after their deportation, how do you think they will consider the United States? We’ll be labeled traitors who paint a glowing picture of people on a hill but, on close examination, it is a sham.

Let us not be part of this scheme. It seems easy for the Trump administration to do this because they assume that these young people have no voice and are easy pushovers.

We can’t let this happen. We have to see that this presidential order to cancel DACA is reversed.
