Summer baseball: Southampton wins Little League District 2 senior championship over Westfield

Nick Pellegrini and Jake Constantine each had three hits and two RBIs, as Southampton won the Little League District 2 senior championship 12-3 over Westfield on Saturday.

Michael Baldwin started and allowed three runs, while John Carey pitched the final three innings and didn’t allow a run.

Southampton next plays District 3 champion Winchendon in the sectional tournament. The teams face off Wednesday at 5:30 at Murdock High School and at Labrie Field in Southampton on Friday.

Easthampton 15, Westfield American 14 — Joey Weilgus stole home and pitched the final two innings of relief for Easthampton’s 8-10 division squad in a Saturday win.

The Eagles trailed 10-4 after the fourth inning.

Anthony Torchia had two hits and two walks, scoring four runs.

Reece Berrien added two hits and a walk with three runs scored.

Anthony Incampo and Jacob Ouimette scored two runs each.

Easthampton 3, Wilbraham Red 2 — Stevie Mousette tallied three hits, including a walk-off single for Post 224 on Sunday.

Brandon Bennett also added two hits.

Aidan Burke started and threw six innings, allowing five hits with four walks.

Northampton 4, Agawam 1 — Mike Mieczkowski, Tim Horton and Ian Ostberg all had RBIs for Post 28 in a win Saturday.

Kevin Banas added two hits, while Tristian Szawlowski pitched four innings to pick up the win.

Northampton 14, Ludlow 0 (5) — Mieczkoski again led Post 28 on Sunday with three hits and three RBIs.

Hector DeJesus and Horton added two hits and two RBIs each, while Ian Ostberg, Pat Grygorcerwicz, Jake Brittain, Brandon Zaikowski and ANdrw Serio all Drove in runs. Serio had two hits.

Northampton 10, Nipmuc 3 — Dominic Badorini went 3-fo-4 and hit two home runs to help Northampton’s 10U all-star team clinch a spot in the state semifinals.

Northampton finished second in Pool A and will play the top team in Pool B on Monday in Pepperell at 5 p.m. The state championship game is at 7:30 p.m.

Northampton hit nine home runs over the weekend.

The team beat Frontier 9-0 and Northbridge 13-9 on Saturday the lost to Hudson 14-5 before playing Nipmuc.
