Wednesday’s high school baseball: Morrison, Hopkins Academy turns away Greenfield

Jon Morrison struck out 12 as the Hopkins Academy baseball team beat Greenfield, 6-2, Wednesday in Hadley.

Trevor Fil’s two-run double paced a four-run third inning for the Golden Hawks (5-6, 2-4 Hampshire West).

Morrison allowed three walks and five hits in seven innings to earn the win.

Frontier Regional 14, Belchertown 0 — Three Red Hawk pitchers combined on a two-hitter as the Red Hawks scored five times in the top of the first and rolled on the road.

Ben Arnold (three innings, three strikeouts), Kalen Evans (two innings, one strikeout) and Bryce Jordan (two innings, two strikeouts) shut down the Orioles.

Jordan had two hits and drove in two runs to lead a balanced attack for Frontier (9-3, 4-1 Bi-County West).

Matt Hildreth had two hits and drove in a run.

South Hadley 10, Turners Falls 2 — Ryan Mooney and Chance Almonte each had three hits, two runs and two RBIs as the Tigers rolled at home.

Nehemiah Wilson was sharp again on the mound for the Tigers (8-4, 4-1 Hampshire West). He worked around seven hits and a walk and struck out six in the complete-game win.

West Springfield 3, Northampton 0 — Nick Dombkowski threw a perfect game for the Terriers.

Dombkowski struck out nine and needed just 84 pitches in the gem.

Hamp’s Zach Brittain allowed just five hits in the game and three of those were on bunts.

Four of the hits came in the Terriers’ three-run fourth, the only frame with any base runners. Their other hit came in the fourth, but Northampton (10-3, 7-2) cut him down taking too-wide a turn at first.

Neither team committed an error, and neither team issued a walk.

Athol 9, Easthampton 5 — Nic Soucy had a hit, an RBI and two stolen bases, but the Eagles (1-11, 0-5 Hampshire West) fell behind 5-0 and couldn’t recover.

Smith Academy 7, Pioneer Regional 4 — Jack Hession went 2-for-3 with two RBIs in a road win.

Matt Bouley had three hits and scored three runs for the Falcons (4-8, 3-2 Hampshire East), while Colin Ferrara hit a double and scored a run.

Amherst Regional 2, Pope Francis 0 — Trevor Edwards threw a five-hit shutout, striking out three at home.

None of the hits went for extra bases, and Edwards walked just three.

The Hurricanes (4-9, 3-4 Valley) broke a three-game losing streak.

Seth Bella-Hunter drove in Nathan Masteralexis in the second inning for their first run. Masteralexis hit a leadoff double, and Will Budington moved him to third with an infield hit.

In the fifth, Jake Balderston led off with a walk, then Masteralexis had a bunt single. Julian Bergoff pinch hit and singled in Balderston.

Masteralexis finished with two hits and a run scored, while Budington had two hits.

Ware 5, Hampshire Regional 2 — Everett Warner (RBI) had the lone hit for visiting Hampshire (4-8).

St. Mary 11, Granby 1 — Noah Bleakley had two hits, including a double, for the Rams (10-5, 1-3 Bi-County North).

Joe Bessette also hit a double, and Joe Desormier scored a run.

Sabis 10, Gateway Regional 0 — Nate Bushor had two hits, and Jake McKittrick added one for the Gators (2-10, 1-2 Bi-County North) in a loss.
