Wednesday’s colleges: Smith drops Springfield on hardwood

The Smith College women’s basketball team had a pair of double doubles en route to a 64-51 win over Springfield, Wednesday in Northampton.

Kennedy Guest-Pritchett had 15 points and 11 boards, while Samantha Alakai had 10 and 12, respectively, for the Pioneers (14-6, 6-5 NEWMAC).

Mandy Castro added 13 points, while Erin Hanley had a dozen.

WPI 76, Mount Holyoke 25 — Leah Hodges had 12 points but the Lyons (2-17, 0-12 NEWMAC) fell in Worcester.

Women’s ice hockey

Amherst 4, Salem State 0 — Molly Connolly scored twice, while Jocelyn Hunyadi and Katelyn Pantera also scored as Amherst (10-5-4) won on the road.

Men’s basketball

MIT 73, Springfield 62 — Jake Ross (Northampton) had 19 points, six rebounds and three steals but the Pride (10-10, 4-5 NEWMAC) fell at home.
