Wednesday’s HS baseball: Northampton rolls as Baldwin earns 200th win, Kellogg 99th hit

Mark Baldwin breathed easy during the latter stages of his 200th career win.

The Northampton baseball team scored eight runs in the fifth inning and beat Ludlow 13-4 on the road Wednesday. The win qualified the Blue Devils for the postseason.

Devin Kellogg (two RBIs) registered his 99th career hit during his 3-for-5 effort. Baldwin thought he had No. 100 in his last at-bat, but the ball went right at Ludlow’s left fielder. Northampton next plays Chicopee on Friday in Cooperstown, New York.

Devontay Edmonds went 3-for-3 and scored three runs.

Aidan Chapdelaine (2-for-4) hit a two-run double.

Andy Grygorcewicz drove in three runs on two hits and picked up the win.

Jackson Heath was 2-for-2 with three runs and an RBI.

Granby 3, St. Mary 2 — Carter Matthews hit a two-out walk-off single that scored Mike McGreevey.

McGreevey pinch ran for Nolan Sullivan, who led off the inning with a single before advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt and third on a flyout.

Sullivan (RBI, run) went 3-for-3. Dylan Moriarty and Matthews each had two hits and an RBI.

Michael White got the win after striking out three across seven innings. He walked three and scattered six hits.

Frontier Regional 4, Greenfield 0 — Matt Hildreth and Dylan Apanell combined on a three-hit shutout for the Red Hawks, who beat their Hampshire West rival in South Deerfield.

Connor Waitkus had a single, a sacrifice and drove in two runs for the Red Hawks (13-1, 5-1), while Kiernan Freeman had a double and scored.

Sci-Tech 8, Smith Vocational 1 — Will Mollison had two hits and scored a run for the Vikings in a home loss.

John Zatowski doubled, and Aidan Pike singled for Smith Vocational (6-6).

Minnechaug 9, Amherst Regional 0 — Evan Hu doubled in a road loss.

Brett Evans, Matt Essig and Luke Leonard singled for the Hurricanes (1-14, 0-9 Valley).

Athol 1, Smith Academy 0 — The Red Raiders scored with one out in the top of the first and neither team scored again.

Athol’s Nick Bousquet threw a no-hitter, while Smith’s Daniel Cavanaugh struck out five and walked two while allowing six hits to take the tough-luck loss.

South Hadley 9, Turners Falls 4 — Evan Levrault hit a three-run single and picked up the win with seven strikeouts.

David Adams had four hits, including two doubles, and two RBIs for the Tigers (5-8, 3-3 Hampshire West).

Jared Sudyka drove in two runs, while Nick Cirone and Wil Ortyl both had RBIs.
