Sophie Gatzounas leads South Hadley to WMass Heptathlon title

Sophie Gatzounas led the South Hadley girls track & field team to a strong showing at the Western Massachusetts Heptathlon, Wednesday at Hampshire Regional in Westhampton.

Gatzounas won the event with 3,522 points. Lindsay Marjanski was third with 3,244 and Sarah Fudger was fifth with 3,085.

Gatzounas had the top mark in the javelin (126-4).

Marjanski won the high jump at 4-11¾ and 200-meter dash (27.33 seconds).

Hannah Labrie, of Hampshire Regional, was sixth with 2,933 points. She won the 100 hurdles in 16.92 seconds.

South Hadley won the team championship. Westfield was second followed by Mount Greylock.

Savannah Sudyka, of South Hadley, won the shot put in 34-3½.
