With three games left in the season and UMass baseball head coach Mike Stone sitting on 749 wins, the opportunities were shrinking for the veteran coach to hit a milestone.

Trailing by three runs entering the ninth inning against Fairfield Tuesday, it appeared the quest for 750 would stretch into the season-ending three-game home stand with Davidson.

But the Minutemen scored three runs in the ninth to force extra innings, and Andrew Noonan’s RBI single in the 10th delivered a walk-off 750th win, 6-5, for Stone at Earl Lorden Field.

Stone is set to retire following the conclusion of his 30th year on the UMass bench.

UMass (14-30) closes its season with a doubleheader against Davidson on Thursday (noon) and the season finale Friday (noon).

In the ninth against Fairfield, a double by junior Brett Evangelista, a walk to Noonan and a single up the middle by freshman Eddy Hart loaded the bases with no outs. Evangelista scored on a fielder’s choice. A walk to Lever forced in Noonan before Hart came home on a wild pitch with two outs.

Logan Greene, Evangelista and hart each had two hits. Dylan Morris had two RBIs.

Casey Aubin struck out two, walked three and allowed one run on seven hits over six innings in the no decision.

Christian Rosati fanned two and allowed one hit in the ninth for the win.
