Police: Fatal shooting in Wendell overnight

WENDELL – Police this morning are investigating a fatal shooting in town overnight.

A 48-year-old woman was fatally shot shortly after midnight, according to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, which is heading the investigation.

A DA spokesman declined to release more details except to say the incident occurred about 12:25 a.m. The spokesman said more information will be released as it becomes available.​

State Police at the Athol barracks had few details to release about a report that a woman was shot with a shotgun by a man she knew, on West Street. It was unclear if police are looking for or have in custody any suspects.

Requests for detailed information were referred to investigators who were still at the scene this morning and not immediately available for comment.
