Track nationals: Northampton shows middle-distance chops in relays

Northampton flexed its middle-distance muscle in the relays at the New Balance Nationals in Greensborough, North Carolina over the weekend.

The Blue Devils, competingas “Hamp Track Club” were 13th in the boys 4x400 relay. Patrick Quinlan, Nik Smith, Ethan Cooper and Cole Lavalle finished in 3 minutes, 19.29 seconds in the Championship classification.

Northampton took 14th in the Championship division of the boys 4x200-meter relay. Christian Hodgson, Nik Smith, Cole Lavalle and Patrick Quinlan clocked in at 1:28.58 to set the school record.

Lavlle, Quinlan, Smith and Benjamin Gordon-Sniffen also took 15th in the championship 1,600 medley relay in 3:29.57. That broke a school record by three seconds.

Amherst’s Zack Ellis finished fifth in the Emerging Elite javelin. He threw 166 feet, six inches.

Sophia Jacobs-Townsley finished 10th in the Emerging Elite two-mile, crossing the line in 11:15.00 for the Hurricanes.

Meikkel Murray triple jumped 44-0.75 to place 17th in the Emerging Elite category for Amherst.

Northampton’s boys 800-meter sprint medley relay team of Josiah Tudryn, Tucker Quinlan, Christian Hodgson and EthanCooper was 20th in the Emerging Elite category in 1:36.35.
