A QUIET PASSION: Emily Dickinson comes to the screen in a biopic that was filmed partly in Amherst and Pelham. Starring Cynthia Nixon as the famous poet and directed by Terence Davies. Rated PG-13.

ALIEN: COVENANT: In the newest installment to the “Alien” series, the crew of a colony ship discovers a remote, beautiful planet that harbors deadly creatures and must attempt a harrowing escape. Directed by Ridley Scott. Rated R.

BAYWATCH: Devoted lifeguard Mitch Buchanan butts heads with a brash new recruit. Together, they uncover a local criminal plot that threatens the future of the Bay. Stars Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron, Alexandra Daddario. Rated R.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST: A new adaptation of the Disney fairy tale about a monstrous-looking prince and a young woman who fall in love. Stars Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans. Rated PG.

CHUCK: A drama inspired by the life of heavyweight boxer Chuck Wepner of New Jersey, who once went fifteen rounds with Muhammad Ali and was the inspiration for the character of Rocky Balboa. Stars Liev Schreiber, Elisabeth Moss, and Naomi Watts. Rated R.

DIARY OF A WIMPY KID: THE LONG HAUL: A Heffley family road trip to attend Meemaw's 90th birthday party goes hilariously off course thanks to Greg's newest scheme to get to a video gaming convention. Based on the book;  stars Jason Drucker, Alica Silverstone, Tom Everett Scott. Rated PG.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY: In this sci-fi thriller, a group of intergalactic criminals are forced to work together to stop a fanatical warrior from taking control of the universe. Directed by James Gunn and starring Chris Pratt, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel. Rated PG-13.

KING ARTHUR: LEGEND OF THE SWORD: A new take, by action/thriller director Guy Ritchie, on the legendary lord, in which Arthur comes up the hard way in the back alleys of the city but must confront his true legacy once he pulls the sword from the stone. With  Charlie Hunnam, Astrid Berges-Frisbey, Jude Law. Rated PG-13.

THE LOST CITY OF Z: A real-life drama, based on British explorer Percy Fawcett (Charlie Hunnam), who journeys into the Amazon in the early 20th century in search of a mysterious city. Directed by James Gary and based on the book by David Grann. Rated Pg-13.

NORMAN: Richard Gere stars as Norman Oppenheimer, a small-time New York City operator whose dreams of money and power consistently elude him — until an unlikely encounter pays off and gives him a sudden opportunity, with unexpected consequences. Directed by Joseph Cedar. Rated R.

SNATCHED: After her boyfriend dumps her before their exotic vacation, a young woman (Amy Schumer) persuades her ultra-cautious mother (Goldie Hawn) to travel with her to paradise, with unexpected results. Directed by Jonathan Levine. Rated R.

THEIR FINEST: In Great Britain in 1940, a former secretary, newly appointed as a scriptwriter for propaganda films, joins the cast and crew of a major production while the Blitz rages around them. A drama/romance starring Gemma Arterton, Sam Clafin, Bill Nighy. Rated R.
