Monday’s HS baseball: Northampton takes advantage of Holyoke’s miscues in win

The Northampton baseball team capitalized on Holyoke’s miscues in a 5-4 win, Monday in Northampton.

The Blue Devils benefited from five walks, five errors and five wild pitches.

Devin Kellogg delivered a game-winning RBI single in the sixth inning to break a 4-4 tie for Northampton (9-6, 4-3 Valley Wheel).

Jackson Heath went 1-for-3 and scored two runs for Northampton .

Ethan Salem picked up the win in relief after throwing two hitless innings with two strikeouts.

RJ Safron limited Holyoke to six hits and one walk in five innings of work. He struck out three.

Frontier Regional 6, Palmer 0 — Ben Arnold threw five shutout innings and helped himself with a two-run single as the Red Hawks rolled at home.

Matt Hildreth added an RBI single and drove in another run when he got hit by a pitch. Kiernan Freeman had a double and scored twice for Frontier (12-1).

Smith Vocational 18, Commerce 6 — Dylan Fil hit a three-run single for the Vikings, while Jack O’Connell had four hits and two RBIs. He earned the win after striking out 10 in six innings of work.

Dana Kellogg hit a two-run single.

Troy Barayon and Tucker Scott drove in runs for Smith Vocational (6-5).

Longmeadow 18, Amherst 3 — Brett Evans drove in two runs in the first inning and finished with two singles for the Hurricanes (1-13, 0-8 Valley).

Justin Masteralexis (hit) and Luke Leonard scored runs.

Monson 8, Easthampton 5 — Lance Parrish had two hits, while Nick Soucy and Zack Kugler each singled for the Eagles (7-6).

Deerfield 11, Williston 4 — Northampton’s Nick Heafey had two hits in a loss.

Tim Fay hit an RBI double, while Aidan Burke had an RBI for the Wildcats.
