Local baseball: Northampton Cal Ripken claims 12U state title

Tyler Vanasse showed the pop in his bat to help the Northampton 12U Cal Ripken All-Stars win a state championship.

He hit three home runs in three at bats en route to a 12-0 win over Marlborough in four innings Monday in Pepperell.

Dominic Badorini hit two homers and went 3-for-3, while James Elliot was 2-for-3 with a home run.

To get to the championship game, Northampton beat Hadley 13-0 in four innings.

Badorini threw a shutout on 56 pitches. Elliot was 2-for-3 with a grand slam.

Ben Sledzieski went 2-for-3 with a homer, while Calvin Perez had three hits in three trips.

“Good baseball all around,” Northampton coach Sean McDonald said. “They played well as a team.”

Northampton advances to the regional tournament, which will take place in two weeks in Connecticut.
